Former Masvingo mayor and opposition politician, lawyer Colin Mabuki, was involved in an accident with a Zanu PF party car last night.
Zanu PF youth president Darlington Mandebvu, who allegedly became violent after the minor side strike, was seriously injured after an oncoming car came and hit him while he was standing in the middle of the road.
The Mirror learned that Mandeepvu was admitted to hospital last night. Another vehicle overturned at the same spot as it allegedly tried to avoid a Zanu PF vehicle that was parked in the middle of the road. The Mirror was unable to confirm the condition of the passengers of the car that overturned at the time the story was published.
The accident occurred along the Bikita-Masvingo Expressway near Mutendi Church. Efforts to get a comment from the police were futile. However, Mabuki told The Mirror that he was on his way from his rural home near Nika in Bikita and the car was being driven by his wife Tariro Mabuki and they had another passenger, Simbarashi. Matei is a relative of Mabuki. “At around 8pm, our car scanned a Zanu PF car coming from the direction of Masvingo which crossed our lane. The car made a U-turn and blocked our car.
“The passengers who appeared to be drunk got off and assaulted my wife, me and Simbarashi,” Mabuki said. Efforts to get a comment from Mandeepvu were in vain. Mabok said that while they were bargaining, there was an oncoming speeding vehicle that tried to avoid them and overturned. Right behind her was another vehicle which was unable to avoid them and collided with the Zanu PF youth president. It is suspected that the youth leader suffered two broken legs.
Mabuki’s car only sustained a broken rear-view mirror although he and his relatives suffered injuries to their faces after being assaulted with empty bottles. The matter was reported to the police in Masvingo. Masvingo mirror
