The country’s security systems have been placed on high alert amid threats targeting ports of entry into the country.

Deputy Principal Secretary for Presidential Communications, Mr George Charamba, confirmed the development, which comes after an email was sent to airport authorities in Zimbabwe through Fastjet Airlines claiming there was credible information that a bomb or firearm threat would target Zimbabwean airports.

As a result, President Mnangagwa, who was scheduled to travel to Victoria Falls to attend a renewable energy conference, canceled his trip to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter.

“After this letter, its source and credibility are also being investigated,” Charamba said in a statement.

“While our country is at peace, and all our ports of entry are well secured, such warnings about possible terrorist attacks are taken and dealt with very seriously, as nothing should be left to chance.

“We urge the nation to remain calm while investigations are conducted, the results of which will be published by relevant government agencies once the investigations are completed.

“His Excellency President Dr Ed Mnangagwa, who was scheduled at this time to address a meeting in the main resort town of Victoria Falls, was forced to suspend his trip to allow investigations to take place.
