TSHABANGU SUSPENDED newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

The Standing Committee of the Citizens Alliance for Change has suspended interim Secretary-General Singiso Chabangu pending a disciplinary hearing. The suspension shall be effective immediately.

In a statement, CCC interim committee vice-chairman Albert Mhlanga said Tshabangu had been suspended after failing to attend crucial meetings.

“The Interim Standing Committee of the CCC met on 21 February amidst great concern regarding the appointed Interim Secretary General of the CCC Chabangu for not attending our meetings on several occasions (despite) invitations [being
sent] “We submitted to him and then also submitted the Bulawayo Senate Replacement and Proportional Representation List to the Electoral Commission of Zimbabwe, which was not agreed upon by the Interim Standing Committee at our last meeting,” Mhlanga said.

“With immediate effect, the CCC has suspended CCC Interim Secretary General Chabangu pending a disciplinary hearing.”

Mhlanga added that the CCC camp announced by Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume appointing Welshman Ncube as interim president based on the 2019 Gweru conference is null and void.

“It is a new party of their own (CCC-Welshman) and the official CCC which fielded dual candidates, was constitutionalised, recalled and the party that appointed Chabangu is the one led by former President Nelson Chamisa who recently resigned from the CCC We have left the party with a temporary standing committee which It is now led by interim President Dingelizwe Chuma.

“Chuma will lead the party for the next 90 days until a date is set for the conference,” Mhlanga said.

He said Chabangu had engaged Mafumi, Ncube and Tendai Biti who were not part of the interim standing committee that appointed him as interim secretary-general of the ACC.

The CCC camp also announced that it had canceled the Bulawayo Senate replacement and proportional representation list that Chabangu had presented to Zik.

“All Members of Parliament, Council and Senate elected on 23 August 2023 must remain in their assigned duties until the end of their term and continue to consult with stakeholders and citizens on the way forward,” Mhlanga said.

“We realized that Chabangu was only looking for positions by getting our signature to endorse him as secretary. We had agreed that the call-ups would only take place in Bulawayo to deal with elected officials coming from outside Bulawayo but to our surprise Chabangu decided on his own to go beyond Bulawayo .

Mhlanga accused Chabangu of over-calling some people in Mashonaland provinces who were elected after signing them.

We complained that President Chamisa imposed on people “We are from outside Bulawayo and we wanted to correct that but we realized that Chabangu is worse than Chamisa by imposing his friends,” he said.

“All parties are being formed in Bulawayo, be it Zapu, Zanu PF and even the MDC He has his roots in Bulawayo. Any party formed outside Bulawayo is doomed to failure, so we are a temporary national structure awaiting the conference.

Efforts to get a comment from Chabangu and his spokesman Khalifani Fujini were futile as their mobile phones were not accessible. Newsday
