A 60-year-old sangoma was arrested on Tuesday after a misunderstanding with a married woman who tricked her into divorcing her husband before he later impregnated her.
Darlington Mabudo, known as Sikoro Nishano in Epworth, was reported to have lured Faith Macha and made false prophecies about her life.
He charged her $150 to “clean it up” and she failed to raise the money.
He told Faith that her husband was behind her misfortunes and she should divorce him.
Mabodo told Faith that she had to accompany him to Shamva to get more help, where they ended up staying as husband and wife.
“Sikuru met me along the way and convinced me that he had psychic powers that enabled him to see through my life’s problems,” Faith said.
“I reported the matter to my mother and we consulted him, but we failed to pay the US$150 he requested.
“He later agreed to perform the cleansing ceremony for free.
“Sikuru convinced my mother that he had to take me to different psychics in Shamva and Westgate where we ended up sharing the same bed.”
She added: “He ordered me to divorce my husband, claiming that he was the one who caused my misfortune, and to hand over my child to him as well.”
“After we returned to Shamva, I fell in love with another boy, but he rejected me, saying that the days of pregnancy were different.
“This was caused by Sekuru Nyashanu and I ended up staying with Sekuru at his friend’s house in Westgate.
“Sikoro Nishanu confiscated my mobile phone and my mother searched for me until she knew where I was and came to take me by force.
“Sekuro Nishano is responsible for my pregnancy. I fell into Sekuru Nishano’s trap and believed his false visions. He forced me to divorce my husband, and impregnated me.” H Metro
