TWO CID OFFICERS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

A Harare man was left urinating blood after being severely tortured by two Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers in an attempt to force him to confess to robbery charges.

The CID officers, based in Braeside, appeared before Judge Ruth Moyo on Monday to face two charges of assault and criminal abuse of office.

Wellington Mlambo (43) and Grechus Soleimani (35) were remanded in custody until March 18 on US$100 bail each.

Prosecutor Rufaro Chunzi alleged that on February 15 at about 7:30 am, the duo arrested the complainant in Mbare Museka on charges of receiving stolen property.

The complainant’s name was not mentioned in the court papers.

The two took the complainant to Braeside CID police station and interrogated him, but he denied the allegations.

The court heard that the duo took turns assaulting him under his feet using a stick to force him to confess.

Court documents indicate that the officers asked the complainant for US$150 in exchange for his freedom.

The complainant’s brother provided the amount.

“After a while, the complainant was forced to pay a $15 fine for not keeping a register of used goods,” the court heard.

The complainant and his brother were later released. CID officers pocketed the bribe money.

While they were returning home, the complainant discovered that he was passing blood-stained urine.

The matter was reported to Mbare Police Station, which led to the arrest of the two. Newsday
