A SADC preparatory mission led by Deputy Executive Secretary for Corporate Affairs, Dr. Judith Katera, arrived in the country today to engage Harare in preparations for the SADC summit scheduled for August.
The preparatory mission is a technical team that will engage Zimbabwe in preparations to host the 44th SADC Summit in August.
President Mnangagwa is scheduled to take over the SADC presidency from August, succeeding Angola.
The team is in the country until February 24.
Speaking shortly after landing at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Dr Katera said the purpose of the visit was to prepare for the August summit where Zimbabwe will take over the position of current SADC chair from Angola.
“We have come to meet the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials because they are our hosts. We will begin work on preparations to host this summit which will be preceded by a number of meetings such as the Council meeting and the Industrialization Week where the private sector is also scheduled to be invited to be part of the program,” she said.
