Two sex workers were raped at knifepoint next to the Mukovisi River in Mbare on Saturday.
The two were arrested at around 10pm from Market Square in the CBD and taken to a secluded location where they were raped by two men, who also robbed them of their money and mobile phones.
Harare Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Lukemore Chakanza, confirmed the case and urged women to avoid loitering at night.
“The two were approached by two unknown men and requested their services.
“They agreed to spend a night at one of the accused’s accommodation in Joburg Lines, Mbare.
“The four boarded a passenger bus to Mbare and were dropped off near Rufaro Stadium.
“The complainants were lured to a secluded location near the Mokovesi River in a cornfield behind Gwenyai Primary School.”
He added: “While they were in the cornfield, one of the accused brought an Okapi knife and threatened to kill the complainants if they did not respond to their demands.
“The accused ordered the complainants to hand over their mobile phones and money.
“One handed over a Huawei mobile phone and US$70 cash, and another handed over an Itel mobile phone.
“The accused ordered the complainants to remove their clothes, lie on the ground and raped them without protection.
“After committing the crime, the accused fled. “The complainants were referred to the MSF clinic for a medical examination,” Insp Chakanza said. H Metro
