A senior police officer allegedly tried to seduce a junior officer and engage in corrupt activities, but the policeman rebuffed him and insisted on following protocol to recover her property.
In a recorded phone conversation, Superintendent Nathan Makoni demanded US$20 from Constable Rubafadzo Vungai Nihumambi to avoid being charged after he found her sleeping at Kwekwe Police Station and took her sleeping bag.
Cst Nehumambi refused his requests to visit his office and repeatedly urged him to follow protocol and return her sleeping bag.
“Come get your thing, and bring $20 because you’re in default. “Kana usina best uende ko-trial. “You can come with your commanding officer so I can warn you of your negligence,” Supt Makoni said.
Nihumambi reiterated that she had no money and was prepared to be charged.
Supt Makuni went to inquire if Cst Nehumambi had finished plastering her house.
Cst Nehumambi claimed her sleeping bag, saying she had inherited it.
Supt Makuni then apologized and promised to follow the correct procedures.
The incident has become a subject of comment and concern among police officers in Zimbabwe, some of whom fear retaliation for reporting sexual harassment. h metro
