Five Hatcliffe Extension women who went viral on social media assaulting a woman they claimed was having an affair with their colleague’s husband appeared in court over the weekend.
The accused, Zilpa Kandoza, Natasha Kandoza, Fortunat Tembo and Olin Fenyungwe, appeared before Harare magistrate, Ms Evelyn Mashavakor, charged with assault.
They were remanded in custody awaiting bail today. Their accomplice, Mitchell Carrillo, was the first to be arrested by police and was produced before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Friday.
Prosecutor Ms Grace Mogocheke alleged that on February 1 at about 1pm and at stand 4088 Hatcliffe Extension Harare, the accused arrived to look for the complainant Alice Chaichai (32).
Chaichai later arrives and Natasha asks her if she is having a love affair with Zelpa’s husband.
Zhaichai denied his involvement in such a case. This angered the accused, who cooperated and dragged Chaichai from her house with the braids.
While outside the house, they took turns punching her several times all over her body while Zhaichai lay helpless on the ground.
Zilpa continued to kick her countless times all over her body while the others were busy punching her.
The defendants stripped Chaichai naked by removing her clothes and tearing off her skin and pants before leaving the complainant lying unconscious on the ground.
The court heard that a well-wisher covered Chaichai with a cloth as she suffered an eye injury and bruises on her legs.
She went to the hospital where she was admitted.
She then filed a police report that led to the arrest of the accused. Announce
