Socialite businessman Wicknell Chivayo has mocked the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) for allegedly trying to investigate the source of his unexplained wealth.
Chifayo has spent huge sums of money on cars for Zanu PF praise singers and others, calling for scrutiny.
The ex-convict appeared to be angry with Zach for trying to dig up the source of his wealth.
In a rant on social media, Chivayo said it was painful for Zak to leak what he called his internal memo, which he felt was aimed at intimidating and blackmailing him.
“The painful thing is to go to car sales and ask about the (Toyota) Aqua cars that were purchased for members of the Apostolic sect,” Chivayo said.
“Why don’t you just say that Mr. Chivayo, Aqua’s car program can also include Zacc.”
In the leaked memo referred to as AFRU 01/03/23 from Zacc’s legal officer, F. Gezi, to the Director of Asset Forfeiture and Recovery named V Masimba, investigation notes detailing the progress made are included.
He highlights that investigations into Chifayo began in March last year due to how he wasted his money and spoiled himself by buying luxury cars and spending lavishly.
The memo showed how Zacc went to various organizations including the Financial Intelligence Unit to obtain information about his banking transactions.
They also went to check his compliance with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority including his personal property with the City of Harare.
In the warrant, Zach wanted to seize property worth US$7 million because they could not explain the source of his wealth.
In a style synonymous with flaunting his financial muscles, Chivayo said he had budgeted $3 million for his church and that he would replace every car if Zach took any of them.
He said: “I have not committed any crime. I know that in your eyes, every person with wealth is a thief.”
“I beg you not to bother the members of the Apostolic Sect. I told them this year that 3 million US dollars has bothered me.
“I’ll be putting aside another $400,000 to buy another 50 Aqua Cars. I thought I should tell you in advance so you wouldn’t be surprised.”
He said all his deals were above board.
Chivayo has been successful and has often gifted musicians and other socialites with Mercedes Benz cars.
He said he did it for the people who supported President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF party.
Musicians Jah Prayza, Sandra Ndebele, Solemani Chimbetu and Sir Kalaz were among those who received late model cars.
Although he did not respond to questions, Chivayo is said to have earned millions of dollars from energy deals where he was in partnership with a Zambian national who died last year.
He is rumored to have energy business interests in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and other interests in Kenya. standard
