Zimbabwe Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union general secretary Robson Shire is in hot water after the school he was transferred to said it no longer has a vacancy.
Sherry transferred to Chitida Secondary School in Wadza countryside from Arcturus Secondary School.
In a letter dated 17 November 2023, addressed to Sherri and signed by Mashonaland East Provincial Director of Education, Anauriya Ncube and Provincial Public Service Coordinator M Moyo, the union was ordered to resume work at its new station by 9 January.
“Please be informed that pursuant to Regulation 13(1), (2) and (3) of the Public Service Regulations 2000, as amended, you are hereby transferred from Arcturus Secondary School in the Goromonzi District to Chitida Secondary School in the Wedza District. It is expected that you will You will assume your duties at the new station no later than January 9, 2024.
Shiri, a science teacher, was transferred to Dembe Secondary School in rural Marondera two years ago before the government ordered him to go to Arcturus Secondary School after Zanu PF politicians in the area complained that he was “mobilizing” teachers to join unions.
Shiri yesterday confirmed the latest development, saying his move to Wedza area hit a brick wall after he was told there was no vacancy at Chitida Secondary School.
According to a letter dated February 8 and signed by Widza District Schools Inspector Godfrey Barrera, Cherry’s vacant position had recently been filled before being transferred.
“We write to inform the office that following the transfer of Sherry Robson to the Wedza area, we regret that the school mentioned for his transfer no longer needs a science teacher. The vacancy was recently filled during our rationalization exercise in January 2024.
“We therefore recommend that it be allocated instead to another school in the Wadza area with the relevant vacancy,” Barrera wrote. Newsday
