Two elderly women have been remanded for bail application after duping land seekers of over US$66,000.
Perpetual Chimuti (57) and Pedzisai Chikari (46) claimed to be running a fake task force raising money for the care of veterans in Banket.
The duo reportedly advertised on social media, opened various social media groups with 120 to 150 people each, and demanded funds ranging from US$10 to US$1,500 for administration, fuel and welfare for the veterans in Banquet.
They also claimed that some of the money collected was for processing letters of offer before moving around Zvimba, Makonde, Ravingura and Banket to show their victims several farms in Mashonaland Western Province. The victims lost US$66,000 through the scheme, and the couple’s associates are said to remain at large.
