A Zimbabwean, who was residing in South Africa before fleeing the country after killing his girlfriend in cold blood on Christmas Day over a text message, has finally been arrested.
He was arrested in Chitungwiza and appeared in court yesterday.
Allegations indicate that the suspect, Tendai Kogotsi, was staying with his girlfriend, Maifenya Mudenda, in Sasolburg, South Africa.
Their lobola plans were at an advanced stage.
On Christmas Day, the couple allegedly got into an argument after Mudenda received a message from her former co-worker that read “I love you.”
During the altercation, Kogotsi allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a kitchen knife on her left shoulder and sat on top of her and strangled her.
Kogotsi spent the night with the body at his home and then fled to Zimbabwe the next day and hid in Chitungwiza.
Detectives from the CID received a tip-off that he was hiding in Chitungwiza where they chased and arrested him.
Kogotsi appeared before Magistrate Dennis Mangosi in Harare, who ordered him detained until February 20 pending investigations.
Meanwhile, Simon Manhango (33) appeared before the same court charged with murder.
The court heard that on December 26, the deceased Regis Mbayago was drinking alcohol with his friends at Shebin in Mbare.
There was an altercation between Mbayago and Manhango.
Manhango allegedly stabbed Mbayago under his right arm and then fled.
Mbayego suffered a deep wound and was assisted by Vimbai Makita Sibanda and others who tried to stop the bleeding.
He died of his wounds.
Manhango has been remanded in custody until February 20.
