Nelson Chamisa says he is forming a unique political movement, which he described as a new door that has never been used.
“It is a beautiful answer to all the challenges we face. It is a new way of doing things – something that has never been seen or done before. It is a new door.
“The door that has never been used. I am ready to lead Zimbabwe and not a party. Zimbabwe needs a leader, a united leader, not a party leader.
“Since 1980, the position of wisdom in this country has been held by a party leader rather than a national leader,” he told The Standard.
Chamisa yesterday launched a mobilization campaign for his new political movement which he says will be unveiled soon.
Chamisa loyalists led by former legislators Amos Chibaya and Gift Austalus Sisiba yesterday addressed their supporters in Mutare during the inaugural mobilization program of the new political movement.
Other prominent opposition figures who attended the meeting included former legislators Regai Tsonga and David Chimhene.
Chikanga legislator Lynette Karini-Kur also attended the meeting.
Sisiba told NewsDay in an interview yesterday that the CCC was “a thing of the past” for Chamisa and his supporters.
“We held a regional meeting in Mutare attended by democrats from across the board. We are setting the tone. We are giving the people the new message of hope and the vision of a new Zimbabwe under President Chamisa.
“We need to continue to make the case for democracy in the face of pure authoritarian consolidation. The democracy movement is under attack, but we need to continue to deliver the message that there must be democratic change in this country despite the assault. We emphasize,” Sisiba said. “Nelson Chamisa is the legitimate leader of the Alternative Party.”
A rival faction made attempts to tempt Chamisa to rejoin the party, but he refused.
Sisiba said pro-Chamisa activists would hold similar meetings in all provinces, and Masvingo would be the next point of contact.
“We are now building the new (sic) from the rubble. The remains of the struggle we build from there. When Hiroshima falls, ruins remain.”
“CCC is no longer the vehicle for the future. The grassroots is clear. They are rallying behind Nelson Chamisa. They have reaffirmed the social contract between them and their leader.
“The grassroots were also clear that even if the MPs who voted for them stayed in the CCC, they would go with Chamisa.”
