ZANU PF spokesperson Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa denied that the ruling party was gleefully wringing its hands over the crisis besetting the main opposition party CCC, saying instead, they felt the unfolding drama did not bode well for the country’s democratic processes.
This comes as the opposition party disintegrated following deep factionalism that led to the resignation of its founder, Mr. Nelson Chamisa, while several legislators and local authority councilors were recalled from their positions by the interim Secretary-General, Mr. Singiso Chabangu, forcing by-elections.
The recalls forced Mr Chamisa to step down amid reports that he was forming another party.
Cde Mutsvangwa said Zanu PF was not bragging about the disaster that was unfolding at the CCC, adding that such behavior was not in keeping with Zanu PF’s democratic ethos of republican constitutionalism and multi-party democracy.
“Instead, we sympathize with the bad luck the disintegrating party faces as a player in a multi-party political environment,” Mutsvangwa said.
“On this occasion, we have been thinking out loud about the mistakes and missteps that a political party can make, and in the process, announcing to our members and cadres the political risks that must be avoided in building the Democratic Party.
“CCC’s troubles are seen as a living example of what cannot be done. We choose to learn rather than gloat.
The crisis in the opposition CCC is deepening and widening, with Mr. Chamisa’s senior members and advisers firing political salvos and diatribes directed at his former legislators and supposed deputies, Mr. Tendai Biti and Professor Welshman Ncube.
The two former lawmakers have been on the receiving end of ferocious and unrestrained attacks on internet platform
Those close to Mr. Chamisa allege that Mr. Biti and his fellow PDP members who followed him to the MDC-A and then the CPC, were colluding with Mr. Chabangu to hasten the collapse of the CCC. Announce
