The government has introduced a set of new fees pegged exclusively to the US dollar for citizenship applications or replacing lost identity documents.
As per Statutory Instrument (SI) 8 of 2024 entitled The Citizenship (Amendment) Regulations, 2024 (No. 23), searching for a set of records/collection is now $10 (in US dollars only).
The value of a temporary travel document is now US$40 (in US dollars only), while the initial registration as a citizen of a foreigner, who is applying on the basis of permanent residence whether an adult or a minor, is US$5,000.
According to another SI 10 of 2024 titled National Registration (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations, 2024 (No. 18), replacing lost or torn documents now costs US$10 or its equivalent in Zimdollars at the prevailing interbank rate.
“Replacement of lost or mutilated metal or polythene identification documents: (1) US$10 (2) Non-residents… US$15 (e) Expedited replacement of lost or mutilated metal or polythene identification documents: (1) Resident . . . .US$20 (2) for non-residents…US$30
“(F) Applying a synthetic polythene identification document while in possession of a metal identification document (1) Resident…$20,” the SI states.
It further stated: “(k) Change of name in the document referred to in (b) or (d) other than after marriage… $25 (l) Change of name in the document referred to in (b) or (d) other than after marriage. After Marriage… $25 (M) Change of Citizenship Status… $40 (N) Change of Name with Notarized Deed… $100.”
SI 7 III of 2024 entitled Birth and Death Registration (Fees) Regulations (Amendment), states that the attestation of birth and death certificates is now US$20.
A foreign birth certificate is pegged at $15.
A non-citizen birth certificate (initial) costs $10 while a non-citizen birth certificate (duplicate) costs $25. Newsday
