The majority of CCC lawmakers have no intention of following Mr Nelson Chamisa who resigned from the opposition party last week.
While there were expectations that Mr. Chamisa’s resignation from the CCC would open the floodgates of resignations, only a few lawmakers expressed their intention to follow him with the majority, among them Mr. Richard Tsvangirai, son of MDC founder, the late Morgan Tsvangirai, saying They will remain in the party
Tsvangirai, the MP for Norton constituency, made it clear yesterday that he would not resign from his position, saying that people in his constituency had requested that he and the council members remain in their positions.
“Today, we met as residents of Norton to deliberate on the resignation of Advocate Nelson Chamisa from CCC. Residents have agreed to stand with Advocate Nelson Chamisa.
“Nevertheless, Norton agreed that their delegates, the MPs and councillors, are doing a great job and should remain in Parliament and the Council and continue to carry out their constitutional mandate pending Barrister Nelson Chamisa’s announcement of the next step, as he promised in his affidavit.”
In another blow to the embattled former CCC leader, his long-time ally and Marondera Central MP, Mr Caston Mathieu, yesterday publicly rejected the idea of resigning from Parliament.

Reacting to Mr Chamisa’s sudden resignation, Mr Egency Gumbo, Member of Parliament for Hatcliffe Constituency, made it clear that he would not rush to follow suit without consulting his constituents first.
“Throughout this week I will be meeting with various groups in my constituency to explain President Chamisa’s statement and its implications for the party they voted for. Having explicitly stated my agreement with Peres (President) Chamisa on the issues he raised, I will also be consulting with my constituents about the many options available to us in present time.
“Our next steps must be strategic and collective. We must resolve today’s issues quickly and refocus our efforts on winning state power.
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume told the Herald last week that he will stand by the people who elected him to office and will follow what the CCC leadership, who will replace Mr Chamisa, says.
“The direction will come from the collective leadership of the party which will be announced for the management of the CCC, and until that time we will continue to carry the mandate that we were elected to do by the people of Harare,” Harare Mayor Mafume said.
This is the view shared by CCC parliamentarians who are angry that their former leader jumped ship without consulting them.
Thus, the majority of CCC legislators are left confused and uncertain following Mr Chamisa’s sudden resignation.
Reacting to the recent refusal by CCC legislators to resign, political commentator Mr Kudzai Mutesi said: “No sane person would resign from his job to follow a man who seeks to feed his fragile ego by dragging everyone into a quagmire with him. . . But rather a man with no known and inept plan.
