A motorist who was caught on video attacking a Tendy Three Investments guard on Friday appeared in court on Saturday and was remanded in custody until Tuesday for sentencing.

Washington Nhenderere’s violent behavior went viral when he attacked an unlucky TTI worker who asked him to pay a US$1 parking fee.

He was immediately arrested and spent the night in police cells at Bulawayo Central Police Station before appearing before the Tredgold Courts on Saturday.

“We continue to urge the motoring public to cooperate with our officers as they carry out their lawful duties,” TTI Director General, Mr Bongani Nyathi said.

The latest incident comes at a time when the Traffic Management Company, in cooperation with the police and the Central Vehicle Registry, launched an operation targeting motorists who broke or confiscated their clip-on devices.

Tampering with the clamp device results in a $150 fine, and if the offending vehicle is towed to the impound lot, the owner pays $30 per hour. Chronicle
