President Mnangagwa has reappointed Justice Priscilla Chigumba as Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Zimbabwe for another six-year term under Section 238(5) of the Constitution.
The reappointment is effective February 1.
Principal Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Martin Rushwaya conveyed the reappointment to Justice Chigumba in a letter yesterday.
“I am pleased to inform His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde. Ed Mnangagwa has, pursuant to Section 238 (5) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe (No. 20) Act 2013, reappointed you as Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Zimbabwe for a term of six years with effect from 1 February 2024,” he said.
Judge Chigumba obtained her law degree in the United Kingdom and joined the law firm Golub & Plank in 1994.
She practiced law for six years before joining PG Industries as assistant company secretary and later establishing her own law firm.
Justice Chigumba joined the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs as a judge in 2004 and served as a Resident Judge and Regional Judge before being seconded to work as a Senior Professional Research Assistant in the Office of the Chief Justice.
She was sworn in as a Supreme Court justice in December 2012. Herald
