A Cameroonian businessman and his accomplice appeared in court yesterday accused of kidnapping his truck driver who failed to deliver a consignment of 600 bags of fertilizer in Zambia.
The driver was kidnapped from Zimbabwe and taken to Zambia where he was remanded in prison for about two months.
Priyanhande (50) from Chitungwiza and Musa Munshikpo from The Grange were asked not to plead when they appeared before Harare Regional Magistrate Mr Stanford Mambangi, accused of kidnapping.
The kidnapping allegedly occurred on October 28 last year at Munshikpo’s offices at No. 21 Douglas Road, Workington, Harare.
Munshikpo is a director of Profburg Private Limited.
The victim, Tasara Huata (47), was allegedly called to the offices by his boss and Chandy along with three other accomplices are still at large.
The accomplices claimed to be police officers and told Hwata that he was arrested because he failed to deliver 600 bags of fertilizer to Omnia Fertilizer Company in Zambia.
According to the state, the trio also assaulted Huata with a stick while he was handcuffed, and ordered him to tell them where he unloaded the truckload of fertilizer.
At approximately 5pm, the accused forcibly took Huata to their car against his will and drove to Chirundu border post where they handed him over to Lloyd Chisumba, a Zambian national who was in the company of Zambian police officers.
The court heard Chisumba, who was using an Isuzu double cab, took Huata to the Mosque police station in Makeni, Zambia, where he was arrested.
Huata was eventually able to file a report through Interpol on December 18, 2023.
