The nine-member CPC-appointed interim steering committee headed by self-declared secretary-general Singiso Chabangu said it would meet tomorrow to discuss the party’s founding leader Nelson Chamisa’s decision to quit the organisation, saying it had been infiltrated and hijacked by ZANU-PF. The National Front and its political agents.
Chamisa dropped the political bomb today, abandoning the opposition that includes MPs, senators and councillors, some of whom have been recalled and replaced by Chabangu supporters and ZANU MPs through by-elections.
Further by-elections are scheduled to be held on 3 February 2024.
The courts banned about 23 pro-Chamisa MPs from participating in the by-elections, which appears to have been the last straw for the popular opposition leader.
CCC interim committee treasurer Mbuso Sisso told the NewsHawks:
“Our nine-member interim steering committee will meet tomorrow as a matter of urgency to discuss former CCC president Nelson Chamisa’s announcement and the way forward. It is unfortunate that he has resigned in this way to tell people that he no longer has anything to do with the case. CCC without formally writing to us as the interim committee running Party.
“We have only seen his departure on social media, and it is everywhere. However, we cannot hold him to ransom to be our leader when we no longer want him, so we will meet to discuss the issue and the state.” For the party to move forward.
“We have a constitution that we used before the general elections to field dual candidates in protest against the imposition of party representatives at the ballot boxes,” he said.
“Our discussions on how to move forward without the former president, and consideration of the Constitution and the roadmap, will guide us toward Congress.
“In the meantime I will call him – Chamisa – to confirm that he has resigned from the party. The last time I spoke to him was a month ago when we were dealing with the state of the party and talking about important issues affecting the Matabeleland region. So I and I will find out more from him about his announcement and what we need from him after he is gone .
“As acting Treasurer, I want all the books, accounts and records of expenditures for accountability purposes. We need to know from the records how much he and the party received in donations and how the money was used. We also need to know if the party has some assets that should remain in his name after he is gone.” .
The committee running the CCC includes Dingelizwe Chuma, former legislator for the Entumbane-Ngube constituency in Bulawayo as chair; Albert Mhlanga (MP and former MP for Bumula); Singiso Chabangu (Secretary-General); Khalifani Fojeni (information); Sikolure Moyo (Interim Women President); Nomvula Mgoni (former Member of Parliament for Proportional Representation), Mbuso Sisso (Treasurer) and Benoni Ncube (Youth).
It is this self-imposed CCC structure that implemented the recalls, leading to Chamisa’s resignation, saying the party had now been “hijacked, distorted and tainted” by fraudsters and fraudsters.
Sisso says the committee is the legitimate structure running the party, following Chamisa’s departure and will work hard to move forward from now on. Newshooks
