Irene Samobinda (33) of illegal Chipping Exchange from Gaza A was robbed of US$6,000 and is appealing to the police for information leading to the arrest of the thieves.

Acting Manicaland Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, told Chipinge Times that Samupinda also seized a Huawei mobile phone during the robbery that took place last Thursday.

He said two male robbers pounced on her at around 4:30pm in Bondo Musica.

Circumstances indicate that Samobinda received a phone call from a woman who identified herself as Mai Sijauki. She allegedly told him that she was wanted for the sum of South African rand equivalent to US$2,000.

“The woman advised Samobinda to drive to Bondo Museika in Gaza and meet her son who would handle the transaction on her behalf. Samobinda was accompanied by her sister Prudence and sister-in-law Alice Massas. The trio saw a man matching the woman’s description of her son. Samobinda approached him and began counting money.

“Another man approached them and sprayed Samobinda with paper. He then took her car keys, opened her car and stole money, a Huawei P36 mobile phone and her car keys. He added that the two thieves fled the scene and headed towards the Motibfa forest area.

Samupinda reported the matter to the police and nothing was recovered.

In an unrelated incident, truck driver Tobias Karenga (39) from Aston Farm was robbed of US$880 and a mobile phone by four unknown male adults, in the Mutare Central Business District (CBD) on Thursday at around 3am.

Karenga, who works for Third Transport, parked his truck Thursday along Railroad Boulevard to relieve himself. He got out of the car and was approached by four men demanding money and other valuables.

They forcefully returned him to the truck and took US$880 and a mobile phone from him. They fled the scene and no one was arrested. Masvingo mirror
