KIDNAP DRIVER REMANDED IN CUSTODY newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

A driver who allegedly kidnapped 25 students from David Livingstone Primary School in Harare and took them to Machiki instead of Kwadzana appeared in court at the weekend.

Samuel Hunde (60) appeared before Harare magistrate, Ms Letwin Rodzi, on charges of kidnapping.

He was remanded in custody until February 2 and the state was ordered to conduct a mental examination of Hunde.

The parents of the kidnapped children allegedly contracted with Hunde to transport them from their homes in Greater Harare to the David Livingstone School since 2016.

It is also alleged that on January 18, at around 1pm, Hondi picked up 25 students from the school and was driving a white Nissan Caravan minibus.

Instead of taking them to their home in Kuwadzana Extension and other surrounding areas, he headed east along the Harare-Mutare road without the consent of the children or parents.

When it reached the 103-kilometre mark in Mashiki, the car ran out of fuel and the Honda was forced to park it.

A passerby informed ZRP Macheke that there was a car with children on board and that he suspected foul play because some of them were crying.

Police rushed to the scene and arrested Hunde on charges of kidnapping.

The children were referred to Marondera District Hospital for medical examination, where they were cared for and discharged.

They were later reunited with their parents and guardians. Announce
