The ruling party, ZANU PF, will capitalize on the confusion in the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) to win the by-election scheduled for 3 February.
The party’s National Political Commissioner, Dr Mike Bimha, said this after a meeting with the Mashonaland West Chigoto District leadership to ascertain the level of preparedness for the by-elections in Chigoto West and Zvimba East constituencies.
By-elections will be held to fill vacant positions in six seats in the National Assembly and 28 local districts.
Dr Bimha said ZANU PF would win back all the seats.
He said: “The happy thing is that the governorate is united and the campaign teams are working unified to support the candidates.”
“As a result, we are confident that we will win in all seats.
“I would like to thank the leadership in Mashonaland West for acting as a united front for Zanu PF to win the upcoming elections.”
Dr Bimha said the elections, necessitated by the recalls of CCC legislators, provided an opportunity for ZANU PF to take advantage of the chaos in the opposition.
“This is an opportunity for us to interact with our voters and learn about their concerns and at the same time convey to them what the government and the party are doing with regard to national development,” he said.
Dr. Bemha said that the ruling party was implementing high-impact, life-changing development projects that matched the needs of voters.
Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson Mary Mliswa Chikuka assured President Mnangagwa of a resounding victory for the party in the two constituencies and the seven constituencies where the by-elections will be held.
“We are working tirelessly to win all the seats that will be contested,” she said.
ZANU PF will be represented by Cde Shakemore Timburwa in the Chegutu West polls.
Cde Timburwa said the confusion that has rocked the opposition will ensure voters get rid of the CCC.
He said: “Preparedness determines success, and if you are not prepared for the elections, this gives us an advantage as an organized party.”
“ZANU PF is strategically planned and has structures.
“We are dealing with confused people.
“As a party, we will maximize this confusion.”
In Zvimba East, Cde Kudakwashe Mananzava will contest on the ruling party ticket.
These vacancies arose following the recalls of the Interim Secretary-General of the ACC, Mr. Singiso Chabangu.
Elections are also scheduled to be held in Mkoba North, Siki, Goromonzi West and Pelandaba Tshabalala constituencies. Sunday mail
