ZIMBA JAILED FOR STEALING CAR IN SA newsdzeZimbabweNewsdzeZimbabwe

A South African court has sentenced Zimbabwean man Cosmos Ndo (36) to eight years in prison after he was found in possession of a stolen car.

Ndo was also charged with violating South Africa’s immigration laws after a court ruled that he was residing illegally in that country.

“The Mokopane Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 36-year-old Zimbabwean man, Cosmos Ndo, to eight years’ imprisonment for possession of a stolen vehicle and contravention of the Immigration Act on Friday, January 12, 2024,” a media statement read in part. From the South African Police, signed by Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

“The conviction and subsequent sentence comes after the court heard that on September 18, In 2023, the accused was found in possession of a stolen vehicle, a bronze Toyota Fortuner that had been reported stolen in the Brooklyn Police District, Gauteng Province on 16 September 2023.

Endo was arrested after a security firm in Mokgovong was alerted by a vehicle tracking company to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle coming in her direction along the R101 highway.

The security company stopped the car and told Endo that the car he had was stolen. He was handed over to the police.

Endo will spend six years in prison for possession of the stolen car and an additional two years for violating immigration laws.

The sentences will not run concurrently. Newsday
