The Ziva Normalization Committee (NC) has for the first time revealed the reasons behind its refusal to operate PHD Ministries founder Walter Magaya’s Heart Stadium last month.
This was stated during a press conference held in Harare on Friday.
This was the first time the national team held a press conference with the media since they were appointed by FIFA in July last year after Zimbabwe’s 17-month ban from international football was lifted.
The committee was tasked with managing the day-to-day affairs of ZIVA, restructuring ZIVA administration, reviewing ZIVA laws and electoral law to ensure its compliance with FIFA laws and requirements, ensuring its adoption by the ZIVA Congress and acting as an electoral committee in order to organize and conduct elections for the new ZIVA Board of Directors.
While they are clearly behind schedule, the National Conference hopes to complete their mission within the time specified by FIFA.
They used interaction with the media to address issues that have marred their tenure so far amid reports that they were pushing to extend their term beyond June 30.
NC’s disdain for the commissioning of Magaya Stadium, which was overseen by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, is one issue that certainly raised eyebrows when it happened.
“We received the invitation on December 8th and the commissioning was supposed to take place on December 10th. “I was on my way to Morocco for the awards, and the vice chairman was working in a family business in South Africa,” North Carolina President Lincoln Mutasa told reporters. “When this call came, all our NC members were pre-booked for a number of things and we spent four to five weeks working on the football field non-stop, and when this call came we had no choice but to write to Prophet Magaya that he said : “I can’t come.”
Speaking on the subject of Baltermar Brito’s appointment as Warriors coach last year, Mutassa said the Portuguese coach was constrained by his qualifications and not his track record.
“What helped us reach this conclusion was the issue of Caf A and Caf B licences. Most of our local coaches we wanted to bring in did not have CAF A licences, and could not participate in matches sanctioned by CAF. So that we would not feel any embarrassment when we faced Rwanda or Nigeria. “We chose a coach whose qualifications were not in doubt. It was not about whether he had coached in Africa or not, but we wanted to be compatible.”
He said: “We do not look at it as a failure at all. We felt that we had pushed the country on the right path and there was no embarrassment in asking our coach not to sit on the bench while the match was being played.”
The committee revealed that it is in the process of appointing a new coach, preferably a local one, and its identity will be known within a few weeks. standard
